wieder hoch auf ca. 830 Meter, dann steiler Abstieg bis km 16,5 auf 790 Meter, ein paar hundert Meter hoch auf 800 meter H\u00f6he dann 1 km sehr steil runter auf 700 Meter, von km 18 bis 27 mehrere role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-2151\"><p>The 5th stage is again a little over 30 kilometers long. Overall, it goes a bit more downhill (ratio of 519 m ascent to 643 m descent), with shorter but steeper uphill passages and long stretches that lead slightly downhill.<\/p><p>The stage starts steeply uphill through nature. But soon you are within earshot of the noisy federal highway 281 until the bigger town of Neuhaus am Rennweg. A lot of forest idyll follows thereafter until the last quarter of the stage which leads you closer to the busy Frankenwalstra\u00dfe (&#8222;Franconian Forest High Road&#8220;) &#8211; the last few kilometers even right next to it.<\/p><p>On the trail you cross the former German-German border to Bavaria. (In the last stage it goes back to Thuringia.)<\/p><p>There are slightly fewer shelters, and some are too small to sleep in. There also seems to be a camp option now: the camping space <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/Trekkingplatz+Frankenwald+Kobach\/@50.4770583,11.3073808,1154m\/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x47a15f715e237949:0x30d1a43188f2962a!8m2!3d50.4772708!4d11.3094081\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trekkingplatz Frankenwald Kobach<\/a>, around km 28.7, which did not exist back when I did the tour (info-website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frankenwald-tourismus.de\/draussen\/trekking\/trekkingplatz-frankenwald-kobach\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">frankenwald-tourismus.de<\/a>).<\/p><p>Several snack bars and rests invite you to take a break. But due to the length of the stage, you shouldn&#8217;t stay too long.
